Episode 25: What To Do When You Overreact

Have you ever reacted to something with an intensity that was WAY out of proportion to what actually happened? Even if we KNOW we are overreacting, our emotions are still real and won't just go away.

In this week's episode, I'm sharing my own experience of overreacting, why it didn't work to run from my feelings, and what I did instead to move on with my day.

This Week’s Practice: How to Move Through Uncomfortable Emotions

The Practice: When you overreact or notice uncomfortable emotions, take the time to face them with Jesus in order to move forward with your day.

How to Move Through Uncomfortable Emotions:

  1. Stop running from the emotion and allow yourself to feel it.

  2. Remind yourself that Jesus is with you and ask him for help.

  3. Name reality, while also recognizing that your irrational emotions are real.

  4. Remember that intense emotions don’t last forever.

  5. Identify next steps (if any), then let it go and move on.
