Episode 24: Practicing the Presence of God
Do your days seem to go by in a blur of mundane, meaningless tasks and to-dos?
In this episode, we'll learn about a 17th-century monk who found God simply by washing dishes. We'll talk about practical ways to find meaning, even in the most boring, routine parts of our days.
This Week’s Practice: Practicing the Presence of God
The Practice: As you go about your day, be mindful and aware of God’s presence with you.
What We Learn from Brother Lawrence:
- Even mindless and mundane tasks can be filled with purpose and meaning. - 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
- It’s possible to connect with God even when you’re doing things that feel like a distraction from God.
Practical Ways to Practice the Presence of God
- Set an alarm on your phone to go off every hour with the reminder: Practice the presence of God
- Put a prayer in a visible place (by your computer, on the fridge, etc.): "God, thank you that you are always with me."
- Say a one-sentence breath prayer throughout your day (Learn more in Episode 4)
- Practice a daily review to notice how God was with you during all parts of your day (Learn more in Episode 7)
