Episode 23: Why Spend Time With God?

What do you hope to get out of your time with God? We might know the "right" answers to this question. But when we notice and name what our heart is really expecting, we'll probably find mixed motivations.

In this episode, I'll share two things I often want from my time with God, and what He lovingly offers me instead.

This Week’s Practice: Why spend time with God?

The Practice: Reflect on your motivations and desires for spending time with God.

Spend some time considering these questions:

  • What do you hope to get out of your time with God?

  • What expectations or agendas do you bring into your time with God? (My examples: answers and feeling a certain way)

Reflect on your desires and motivations in the presence of God.

  • As you notice and name your motivations (without guilt or shame), confess those desires to God.

  • Say a prayer of surrender, and trust that God will show you what HE has for you as you draw near to Him.
